  resource database

  It would be awesome if there was a centralized location (web site/database) where chapters could post and share their projects. Advisers and members could go here for inspiration and ideas for recruitment, fundraising, service learning, and so forth. For it to be REALLY helpful, it should be searchable by fields like project type, chapter size, cost, time involved (easy to hard). I think this would be very beneficial ...more »

  It would be awesome if there was a centralized location (web site/database) where chapters could post and share their projects. For it to be REALLY helpful, it should be searchable by fields like project type, chapter size, cost, time involved (easy to hard).   New NFLC concept

  Part of the draw of NFLC's is the host city. I have heard many requests to modify the NFLC model to take advantage of our host cities and incorporate more group outings, business tours, cultural events, etc. Think Junior Tours meets FBLA event. Our speakers would be real life entrepreneurs and our socials could be a Broadway Show or Night Tour of the city...

  Adviser's Bootcamp

  Training for our new advisers. My adviser had a hard time this year since she was new and should have received a training.

  Professional Div Mentors

  Give chapters (local & state) a directory of Professional Division members in the area and encourage tapping in to the network for business expertise. Allow Professional Division members to create a profile that outlines expertise, experience and types of support that member is willing to give i.e. judge competitive events, mentor students with project, financial, etc.

  Go World Wide

  Similar student organizations have already gone international (I.e. DECA). If FBLA is the largest student organization in the world without being international imagine the possabilities by expanding to other countries.

  Scholarships

  There are many scholarships out there for FBLA members but when I do scholarship searches on sites such as College Board, they don't even have FBLA as an option for an organization. It would be nice if FBLA could get on the list of organizations on various scholarship sites, that way members can see their options!

  Online Silent Auction

  Currently, the Silent Auction takes place at the National Leadership Conference (NLC).

  If you move the Silent Auction online, you'll open it up to more members, advisers and friends -- not just people that attend NLC.

  FBLA corporate identity/ website template

  Many new chapters want to get their logos and websites done but don't know how or don't have the funds to pay a graphics designer or web designer to do their website. FBLA should prepare a general FBLA local chapter html website for the new chapters to use.

  We should establish a program at NLC for noncompetitors where they can work with business professionals or even corporate executives in low ratios for career development/networking. After IFL, the National Leadership Conference takes place, and a majority of the action is focused on competitions.   We should establish a program at NLC for noncompetitors where they can work with business professionals or even corporate executives in low ratios for career development/networking.

  After IFL, the National Leadership Conference takes place, and a majority of the action is focused on competitions. However, of the quarter million FBLA members, only a few thousand can be recognized as a competitor. Of course, there are certification exams, workshops, and voting, but a good number of members aren't going to attend NLC just for that, especially if they are not competing.

  The question comes down to this: why should people attend NLC if they are not competing?

  Answers include that it is a great networking experience and the "ultimate FBLA experience". Yes, but personally, I think we can provide a far lot more. One idea that I think FBLA should look into for inspiration is the DECA Senior Management Institute + Executive Mentor Program at their "national" conference. Members, in this case seniors only, work with company executives in low ratios and get to participate in a whole different environment for career development.

  Of course, we should not completely COPY the program, but it is always good to look around for inspiration.

  FBLA Business Co-op Program with Cooperating Businesses

  This club is for FUTURE business leaders, right? Most of the members are high schoolers who are interested in a business-related occupation. FBLA has many sponsors. So, what if FBLA can team up with their business sponsors to provide summer internship/job-shadowing for their FBLA members so they can overlook the careers they might want to pursue. That way, FBLA members can have some experience in the career before college, ...more »

  This club is for FUTURE business leaders, right? Most of the members are high schoolers who are interested in a business-related occupation. FBLA has many sponsors. So, what if FBLA can team up with their business sponsors to provide summer internship/job-shadowing for their FBLA members so they can overlook the careers they might want to pursue. That way, FBLA members can have some experience in the career before college, and can have a better shot at getting the job they are interested in when they are older.

  This summer training program should be available in all states, so everyone gets the opportunity to learn. For example, FBLA-PBL could team up with Microsoft to offer a free internship for FBLA members interested in pursing the technology field. Or maybe team up with a bank to offer a free job-shadowing for members interested in accounting. And if the program becomes more popular, internships could also offer participants money to help them fund college. Think of it like a FBLA Business Co-op program.

  Why does FBLA-PBL not offer a program like the BAA's to advisers? One of the primary reasons for the Business Achievement Awards is to document and prove all the time and effort you have put into FBLA.   Why does FBLA-PBL not offer a program like the BAA's to advisers? One of the primary reasons for the Business Achievement Awards is to document and prove all the time and effort you have put into FBLA. So why do we not offer a similar series of awards for advisers who have been dedicated to the organization throughout the years, and have successfully lead students into the business world, or have helped them grow as individuals by being actively involved in FBLA. Sure it would be a little more work for the Advisers, but if FBLA-PBL could offer some benefit or incentive, I believe advisers could be pulled in. Adviser's involvement in the BAA's would only help promote student involvement.

  FBLA Forever

  As a college member saying Phi Beta Lambda is the biggest pain there is! Why are we Greek? Why not Collegiate FBLA? or something. The biggest problem is everyone thinks we are a Frat, not an organization. FBLA members have little knowledge of PBL. The change hurts our college divisions deeply! DECA has removed their greek name and became one same name. Simpler and more effective agree?

  Allow Advisers to get a FBLA.org subdomain for chapter website.

  We should let advisers set up a subdomain (schoolname.fbla.org) that redirects to the chapters website. That way it is up to the chapter to create their own website where they see fit, but they don't have to buy a domain name.

  Opening Session Speaker

  I just watched a video from the opening session in 2007. What happened!?!? I don't want to down any other speakers that FBLA may have, but this is the type of entertainment that our students want. Yes I do enjoy my share of real business people and inspirational stories, but why not have that mixed in with...well some of this. If this isn't enough business for you, there are enough workshops for anyone. See video below: ...more »

  No Automatic Certificate

  After completing the BAA's last year, it was hard when I was finishing up the America level. I finished my work, handed it in and received a certificate for completing the BAA's. Then after a few months, I noticed my name was not up on the America Level BAA's. Therefore, my adviser and I went back onto my America level BAA and noticed that it was incomplete due to doing certain tasks wrong. If I was to never recheck ...more »

  After completing the BAA's last year, it was hard when I was finishing up the America level. I finished my work, handed it in and received a certificate for completing the BAA's. Then after a few months, I noticed my name was not up on the America Level BAA's. Therefore, my adviser and I went back onto my America level BAA and noticed that it was incomplete due to doing certain tasks wrong.

  If I was to never recheck the program, I would have thought I completed the America level when really I did not.

  In order to prevent this from happening to students, there should not be an automatic certificate given to students who complete a level. The certificate should be given out once the BAA committee has checked their work.

  How do we get all PBL members paid for?

  One of the real challenges that we are facing is that local chapters are more frequently underreporting membership and underpaying dues. They wait until they determine who is going to participate in a conference, for instance, and then pay dues only for those members. One of the real issues here is that there is essentially no effective method for detecting, or enforcing, the "pay for everyone" rule ... and there ...more »

  One of the real challenges that we are facing is that local chapters are more frequently underreporting membership and underpaying dues. They wait until they determine who is going to participate in a conference, for instance, and then pay dues only for those members. One of the real issues here is that there is essentially no effective method for detecting, or enforcing, the "pay for everyone" rule ... and there is no real consequence for cheating the system. While we'd like to think that ethics would be enough of a motivator, there is increasing evidence that this practice is becoming more and more common.

  One potential "solution" might be to allow individual PBL members the ability to create their own "membership account," which would allow them to pay directly for their membership, conference registration, etc. Obviously, they would still need to be able to link themselves to a chapter as well. This would link the payment/affiliation processes and increase the likelihood that all members would pay dues appropriately.

  The longer term solution is that we, as an association, need to have a dialogue about increasing "nationally delivered value." The hard truth is that for the vast majority (well north of 90%) of members receive (or at least perceive) no direct, measurable, benefit from the national association. Not many more can point to hard benefits from the state chapters either. Yet, for many, the majority of their cost of affiliation is associated with one or both of these levels. It's time to really tackle - in a meaningful way - the "what do I get for my dues" question.

  Updating the FBLA MarketPlace

  Come out with new items in the FBLA MarketPlace. This can include FBLA rings (similar to class rings and FBLA necklaces (for the ladies). Start a Facebook Page and host a giveaway contest as well as put items on sale during Regionals or State Conferences.

  As of now, the competitive events have a limit at NLC of one chapter, and either a team or individual event. Often times at the State Leadership Conferences, people win/qualify in several events in each group, therefore forcing them to choose one event and possibly leave a team event that would also do well. This would make sense for the individual events especially since most of these events are objective tests and are not hard to proctor and handle a large amount of them.

  Website - Spanish Version

  As FBLA grows larger and larger, our association has reached out to many individuals in this country and others. Developing a Spanish version of the website may help others that are not as familiar with English. Creating a tab at the top to set the website to different languages would broaden participation.

  Puerto Rico State Chapter (PLEASE READ THIS!!!)

  I am a freshman (High School in PR starts in 10th grade) belonging to the Comercial Education Program of my school. FBLA is technically dead in my school. Most students in the Program don't even know what it is. And the teacher in charge doesn't orientate. I started investigating about the organization on my own and was suprised about the things the organization offers. I was kinda suprised to see PR in the chapter ...more »

Most students in the Program don't even know what it is. And the teacher in charge doesn't orientate. I started investigating about the organization on my own and was suprised about the things the organization offers. I was kinda suprised to see PR in the chapter news in the winter issue, it's possible that only my school is like this. I have no idea how the NLC's work here, and I think they don't even exist. If they do, ¿how do they work due to our geographical location? Of course, I don't know exactly what the NLC's are. I beg of the organization to do something about this. Maybe do a presentation or recorded conference to orientate the teachers and students here. Puerto Rico must be recognized as a separate chapter. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

  Shortened Membership Recruitment Video

  I really like our current membership recruitment video. However, the length makes it hard to put on the school announcements and other school media outlets. What if we had two videos- one regular length video, and one abridged, thirty second video? This will allow our chapters to better advertise and recruit new members by being able to choose between videos to suit their needs!

  Middle-Level

  Currently, FBLA Middle-Level conferences are held in conjunction with high school FBLA. However, maybe the National Office should hold a recruiting campaign to increase Middle-Level chapters, so that this can become a separate faction, much like PBL.

  Email Blast List

  Hi!

  I was wondering if its possible to make the field of email addresses when we sign up members a mandatory field. Not only will ALL the members be informed as the President and Regional VPs send their email blast, but State Presidents could also have access to them so that ALL the members are more informed about whats happening around in the state and national level!
