I completely agree with you, my adviser this past year was also new to the organization. I do think, though, that New Adviser Training should be held at the state level. Each state chapter should develop a program for new advisers that caters to the state's different ways of operation, with also covering national programs.
We have one in my county but according to her it didn't cover anything, which is one of the reasons she has decided not to do FBLA next year.
The national office should prepare a program for training new advisers to be implemented on the state level.
I think that this is more of a state issue than a national one because not all states work the same. Some states don't have district competitions and some do. States also have different conferences and other events so I think that this should be handled at the state level. I think that new Adviser's should be assigned a mentor Adviser in their area that they can email and collaborate with to figure things out.
A training video might be good. That way the adviser can view it when they had time.
My adviser was also new this year and it was a complete struggle to get work done on time when she didn't understand why. I think that perhaps a national or state "new advisers" handbook should be made, containing information like registering for conferences, the Virtual Business Challenge, the Business Achievement Awards, and state/national contact information.
I agree that there could be more training for new advisers. Could this be done with current Webinars just for new advisers or for advisers looking for refreshers? It could be set up for them to receive an electronic 'completion certificate'.
