In Georgia FBLA there is a monopoly tournament that concludes at the state level. I believe by taking the winning team from each state there could be a massive game of monopoly played at nationals to see who is the best in the nation. I believe this will give students the opportunity to learn more related to money and making successful deals, but would also be a fun event at nationals!
Last fiscal year I completed all of the BAA and CSA, but due to the fact that I was out of the country during the NLC I haven't been able to receive the awards. After my advisor trying to figure out what to do its been two months and we can't figure out what to do. Maybe after completion and approval of the programs there should be an option just to have the awards shipped instead of traveling to the NLC to receive them. ...more »
Develop local micro-businesses for teens with autism. (85% adults with autism are unemployed. Work with teens in your community to determine what they CAN do. Then develop product or business based on current skill set. Create market (teacher's gifts, etc.).
The voting process at the NLC is terrible (at least in the regional sessions). Voting in the "real world" does not consist of waiting for everyone else to show up. Voting in the real world is electronic, provided by kiosks. A majority always shows up on Election Day because it is widely known about and does not have a two-hour session of waiting for everyone to show up and all votes to be counted. This issue at the NLC ...more »
The Website Design competition currently allows teams to use a template instead of building a site from scratch. This competition was formerly named "Website Development", meaning that one must build their site from scratch. Filling in a template does not represent adequate knowledge of website development code, and someone who does this should not be considered over someone who worked 50+ hours building a website from ...more »
FBLA should take the entrepreneurship competitive event and turn it into to separate events, one for the start-up type companies we're seeing today, and another for small businesses. I competed through nationals and felt that it focused too much on traditional entrepreneurship such as franchising and starting a physical store.
An adviser submitted a suggestion for an FBLA or PBL beach towel. Yes or No?
I think FBLA should integrated competitive events related to administrative support and office management, such as Office Administrative Procedures, Document Management, Records Management, Legal and Medical Office Procedures, etc.
Many students play a stock market game in their HS business classes, and it is quite popular. The current stock market game would get more attention if you didn't have to pay for it and if it were an actual competitive event. Make this a competitive event, and it would probably be quite popular.
The competitive events handbook was re-designed this year and its looks great. While the charts are very handy, the book is confusing to follow. Go back to a 1-page description of an event, and keep the summary chart info at the beginning. It is nice to look at one page for each event that has the complete info.
A lot of money is spent for chapters to travel to the NFLCs. While the keynote Josh Shipp was awesome, the workshops were full of speakers who were just selling stuff and imparting information that most teachers could give you in school. Perhaps an integrated approach might be better, by hiring a company to produce the workshops at the NFLCs, just like the IFL. Speakers can also sign up to speak as well just like the ...more »
We would like to see the NLC Business Achievement Awards (BAA) recipients recognized for each Region.
We would also like to see the Go Green Project Award winners recognized. Neither of these were recognized in the Summer 2014 Tomorrow's Business Leader.
