Sure, you might run into people from your same competitive event at NLC, but how can you network with other delegates, professional division members, and others that are interested in the same field as you? I suggest holding peer networking sessions at conferences focusing on specific career clusters (Management, IT, etc) and social issues (diversity, lgbtq, etc) where delegates can learn from experts in the area and ...more »
I think it would be better to move up the date for the NLCs a few days. . . away from the July 4 weekend. Sometimes, we come back on July 3 (if closing is on the 2nd), and that doesn't allow traveling for the 4th.
BPA has a greenscreen photo booth at their NLC that looks pretty cool. Very innovative and something to consider. Check it our here: http://photo.bpa.org/p594688424
It seems like many chapters are not within walking distance of the Opryland Resort in Nashville (like 6 miles away). A goal of every NLC and NFLC location should be to allow members to walk from their hotel to the conference. Anaheim, Orlando, and San Antonio seemed to work out. Although Nashville is different and can be fun (not as much as Orlando and Anaheim), perhaps the location should be re-evaluated. Increased ...more »
I think that we should have positions open throughout FBLA-PBL to serve as conference attendants. These people would be a team that meets to create ideas for better conference involvement and go to various conferences throughout the year (some that are not FBLA-PBL), and bring back knowledge in a report that will make our conferences better. Conference attendance is declining and we need to focus on better ways of engaging ...more »
The voting process at the NLC is terrible (at least in the regional sessions). Voting in the "real world" does not consist of waiting for everyone else to show up. Voting in the real world is electronic, provided by kiosks. A majority always shows up on Election Day because it is widely known about and does not have a two-hour session of waiting for everyone to show up and all votes to be counted. This issue at the NLC ...more »
A lot of money is spent for chapters to travel to the NFLCs. While the keynote Josh Shipp was awesome, the workshops were full of speakers who were just selling stuff and imparting information that most teachers could give you in school. Perhaps an integrated approach might be better, by hiring a company to produce the workshops at the NFLCs, just like the IFL. Speakers can also sign up to speak as well just like the ...more »
I was talking to my cousin who is a former FBLA member. During his time in the club he made it to state every year. We talked about how state conventions then and now are similar and different. They had a dance when he was in school. My club and I ( I am the current president) were discussing the topic and decided to send this in asking if maybe in the near future we could possibly have a dance held at state convention ...more »
While many national officers and members look great at conferences, they don't seem to be following the dress code, even on stage. For the girls, the backless, spaghetti straps, or strapless dresses is frequently violated. It doesn't set a good example for the rest of the members, causes an inconsistency in enforcement, and has advisers correcting those students when the national officers don't even follow them. DECA ...more »
I believe that competition periods should be longer. I felt like it was too rushed this year at SLC. It would have been nice if it lasted an extra day or two. I live in California and our State Conference was from April 19 to April 22, and the National Conference, which is coming up, is 4 days as well ( June 29-July 2). I LOVED the State competition this year but I really wish it lasted longer, it all went so fast and ...more »
